Christopher Burnett

Chris is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney and Legal Director based in Ellisons’ Corporate and Commercial team in Chelmsford, who specialises in the protection, commercialisation and enforcement of intellectual property rights including patents, designs, trade marks and copyright.

Whilst he has a degree in Biochemistry, Chris has a broad tech background, ranging from life sciences, oil field and pharmaceuticals to engineering such as in the medical device and AgriTech space. Chris has over 20 years of experience, and has worked with blue-chip international corporations through to startups and high-tech SMEs.

Chris has worked with many household names on their patent and trade mark portfolios, including IBM, Cipla, Halliburton Energy Services, 3M, the United States Government and Hewlett Packard, and has been ranked in the Legal 500 directory. He is also keen on outreach, and has spoken at many primary and secondary schools and Universities in Essex to promote careers in Intellectual Property in support of the pan-industry initiative IP Inclusive.

Chris is adept at tackling complex legal and technical problems, and being able to advise clients with clarity. Chris can apply his deep knowledge of different industries to ensure that his clients’ valuable assets are not only protected but are commercially optimised.

Chris is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney, with a BSc in Biochemistry from University of Edinburgh, and an MSc in the Management of Intellectual Property from Queen Mary, University of London. Chris is also an affiliate member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
