    Ian is a Partner in Ellisons’ Dispute Resolution team in Ipswich. He specialises in construction and regulatory law, and has extensive contentious construction experience across all forms of dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation.

    With over 15 years’ experience as a construction law specialist and over 25 years’ experience of criminal and regulatory law, Ian has specialist knowledge to provide detailed advice, assistance and representation across the range of regulatory issues which may arise on or following construction projects, including Health and Safety Executive investigations, waste disposal issues, other environmental concerns and regulatory issues arising from the cladding crisis.

    Ian graduated from the University of Nottingham and completed his LPC at the College of Law in London. He was a trainee solicitor at the Crown Prosecution Service, before working in the public sector, for local authorities and a police force, for 11 years.

    Ian is a member of the Society of Construction Law; and a co-opted member of the Suffolk Joint Construction Committee, a cross-disciplinary, built environment forum seeking to promote the interests of the Suffolk construction sector locally, regionally and nationally.

    • Regulatory law, including advising and representing clients in respect of investigations and prosecutions in matters such as:
    • Health & Safety breaches (whether investigated by the Health & Safety Executive or local authorities)
    • Environmental law breaches, including noise nuisance, pollution, controlled waste matters and wildlife offences
    • Licensing law, including matters such as:
    • Licensing Act 2003 licences: pubs, nightclubs, members’ clubs and restaurants
    • Taxi and private hire vehicle licensing

    Ian is a keen cyclist, particularly mountain biking. Ian has organised various bike-related sponsored events, often involving unwilling colleagues on the back of his tandem. Ian is a former contributor to two legal publications, namely Paterson’s Licensing Acts (2005) and Stone’s Justices’ Manual (2007).
