Ian Johnston

Ian is a Partner in Ellisons’ Private Client team in Essex. He specialises in all aspects of private client work with a focus on advising clients in relation to complex tax and succession planning for business owners and farmers, along with Wills, Probate and the efficient use of Trusts.

With over 16 years’ experience in the Private Client sector, Ian acts for a wide range of clients including high-net-worth individuals, farming families and business owners. He is regularly instructed by clients to deal with the administration of complex estates involving lifetime gifts, gifts with reservation and business & agricultural property issues, as well as providing advice in relation to succession planning and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Ian also advises clients on the creation of Lifetime trusts, and assist Trustees on the management of Trusts with anywhere from £250,000 to £5,000,000 in total assets.

Ian has built up a very strong network of professional contacts and clients in Essex, and is renowned for providing an extremely high standard of client care with an ability to put clients at ease. He is recognised in the Legal 500 as a Next Generation Partner, being described as ‘very knowledgeable and likeable’ and ‘clearly knowing what he is doing and professionally delivers that knowledge’. Ian is also a committee member of the Essex branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
