As Family Lawyers we see how people’s mental health can be significantly affected when they instruct us to assist them. This can be whilst they deal with divorce, separation or arrangements for their children. All of these issues can be extremely stressful and increase a person’s anxiety and, in some cases, lead to depression and serious mental health issues.
We try to assist and work with our clients to help them with these matters; however, we will also offer clients resources to ensure that they are seeking help outside of the legal process. This may be from their GP, therapist and their support network of friends and family.
It is so important to ensure that you are kind to yourself and seek help if you are struggling with your mental health. A therapist could help you work through your feelings and provide you with coping techniques. You can find a local counsellor to help you here: BACP
Another useful resource to find an expert through the process of divorce is: Divorced Parents
If you are able to talk to friends and family during this time, they can support you during any transitions. You may be looking for somewhere else to live for a short period of time or need assistance with looking after the children whilst you are at work. Reach out to those you know as they may be able to help.
It is also important to seek legal advice as early as possible as the clients we see are often worrying about the process and their rights. A person can often be fed incorrect information or be searching online which can be unhelpful and cause them more stress and anxiety. To speak with a member of our Family Team, please contact us on 01206 764477. The team can offer advice at one of our offices in Colchester, Chelmsford, Frinton-on-Sea, Ipswich or Bury St Edmunds. We are also proud to support Blue Light members and offer a discount on our initial fixed fee meeting.
